Habakkuk 2:4 Part 5–Righteous by Faith
Having established that the vision of Habakkuk 2:2-3
refers to the New Covenant administered by Jesus Christ, it is time to come to Habakkuk 2:4
and understanding its meaning within that context. So let us plow right into the text reading from the ESV,
“Behold, his soul is puffed up; it is not upright within him,
but the righteous shall live by his faith.
I may come back and post on the verse as a whole, but my main concern is the last line of the text, “the righteous shall live by faith.” What does the prophet, rather Yahweh himself, mean by the terms “righteousness” and “faith”? Did Paul correctly interpret the text and come out with justification by faith alone? What about Hebrews and how does the Pauline understanding line up? Does Habakkuk 2:4
teach what the NT posits it to teach? In this post, I want to examine this line within its own context and determine what Yahweh meant by “the righteous” and “faith.” Read more
