1 Chronicles 16:27

Food For Thought

Here are some interesting links that you should check out.

I found this post very thought provoking and encouraging, being a single Christian and all: Being a Single Christian, or Christian Singleness.

Here are a couple of posts by Michael Bird at the blog Euangelion. The first post is an examination of the supremacy of Christ from Colossians. He begins by comparing Christ to Caesar (Nero at the time Paul wrote the epistle). Augustus, the first emperor of Rome was given “auctoritas, that is, a combination of power and prestige.” But Caesar is only a twisted image at best, especially the likes of Nero. Jesus is the true auctoritas. The second reason is that in Christ the fullness of deity dwells in him, and it pleased God to do so. Bird writes, “the main point is surely christological, the fullness of God - that is God’s word, wisdom, glory, spirit, and power - dwell in the Messiah.” I really was encouraged by this article. The part of Jesus as supreme auctoritas is a very important reminder for July 4th celebrations. We must remember our true King, our true Emperor, Jesus Christ. He sits on Yahweh’s throne and reigns over affairs of this world according to the counsels of his will. We do not declare independence from him, to do so is to be eternally damned to hell. (The Preeminence of Christ in Colossians)

The other post is this comment,

The task of evangelism is therefore best understood as the proclamation that Jesus is already Lord, that in him God’s new creation has broken into history, and that all people are therefore summoned to submit to him in love, worship and obedience. The logic of this message requires that those who announce it should be seeking to bring Christ’s Lordship to bear on every area of human and worldly existence

Click here to read who wrote this. I think this is essential to the gospel message, the kingdom is here now (just read the Synoptic Gospels and the kingdom message that Jesus preached there). But I bet some might be surprised at who wrote this quote (the citation for where to find it is in the original post).
