Think Wink.

Yesterday I read the first issue dealing with the new Red Lanterns in the Green Lantern Universe. I really thought this brutes (I guess?) were cool and can be really good if done right. Being in the capable hands of Geoff Johns that shouldn’t be a problem. But that got me to thinking of ideas for a possible Green Lantern pair of movies that has absolutely nothing to do with the Red and Blue Lanterns. The key is Hal Jordan vs. Sinestro. When Hal Jordan first became a Green Lantern, part of the Green Lantern Corps., Sinestro was assigned to instruct Jordan on what it means to be a Lantern. Jordan later confronted Sinestro on his methods of laying down order in Sinestro’s given sector of the galaxy. This led to Sinestro being cast out of the Green Lantern Corps. Recently Sinestro was able to unlock the power of yellow energy and create his own Lantern Corps with yellow rings instead of Green. The Green Lantern Corps. went to war with this Sinestro Corps. and won.

I think this relationship would be a great two-part movie. The first movie would focus on Jordan becoming a member of the Green Lantern Corps. Through his eyes the movie audience would be introduced to the galactic struggle and how the Green Lanterns help to keep the peace. Sinestro could be develped into a very important antagonist to Jordan because while he is a march harsher being, he is highly favored because he gets results. When Jordan finds out about his repressive methods, he feels betrayed by Sinestro and confronts him.

In the second movie, Sinestro is able to create the Sinestro Corps and engage the Green Lanterns. There are ways to introduce the Parallax and even Superboy/man Prime into this movie as well. John Stewart and Guy Gardner and Kyle Rayner can already be Lanterns for other parts of the galaxy and thus Gardner can become Parallax. Superman/boy Prime could be a clone of Superman or something, if they really wanted to use him. He has the potential to detract from the main focal point of Jordan vs Sinestro.

I really hope DC and Warner Bros really try to play up this relationship for their Green Lantern franchise. Oh I think the guy to play Green Lantern should be New Frontier’s David Boreanaz as Hal Jordan. I like it and he’s familiar with the character already. I’m not certain who would play Sinestro though.
